Sylvia Brenner (Bennett) is the dutiful but overlooked secretary to Gaylord Stanton (MacKenna), a philandering divorce lawyer who only dates married women to avoid commitment. To dodge an unwanted marriage proposal from another woman, Gaylord impulsively proposes a marriage of convenience to Sylvia: they'll wed, she'll receive a generous allowance and a year-long "holiday" in Paris, and then they'll quietly divorce. Sylvia, secretly in love with her boss, reluctantly agrees. In Paris, however, Sylvia blossoms into a chic, confident woman, attracting the amorous attentions of the suave diplomat Reggie Durant (Rathbone). Because this film is widely considered to be in the public domain, it is often found among Public domain movies.

When Gaylord encounters the transformed Sylvia, he begins to realize he may have misjudged her and his own feelings. The film playfully explores themes of love, jealousy, and societal expectations with a light, Pre-Code touch.
