Life with Father

Directed by the versatile Michael Curtiz, best known for Casablanca, Life with Father is a vibrant Technicolor comedy that vividly captures the eccentricities of the Day family in late 19th-century New York. The film stars the debonair William Powell as Clarence Day Sr., a blustery, fiery-tempered patriarch who demands absolute order in his home but is constantly outwitted by his gentle, clever wife, Vinnie, played by the delightful Irene Dunne. The plot thickens hilariously when Vinnie discovers that Father has never been baptized, sparking a family crisis that threatens his eternal soul—and his dignity.
